Hello everyone and sorry for the delay in submitting a new entry in my blog. It is the summer and I am just getting familiar with all the new social media promotion of the business. Yes, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Just search for Italian Ice Cream Niagara Falls.
Now on to today’s topic, “What we do”. With a name like Italian Ice Cream, people often ask me, "what do you do or make?" My response is, our product is our name, our name is our product! Let me explain further. In 1978, when we opened, not many people knew what Gelato was and what the difference was, even today there is confusion. Growing up, the Italian word for ice cream was “gelato” for me and many other Italians. Today it has become its own thing. So when my father opened the doors he called the place “Italian Ice Cream.” This way people would know that we were different from other ice cream shops. Note there is a difference in the way gelato is made in comparison to ice cream. I will talk about that next time!
In the 90’s, gelato became more popular and shops started defining themselves as a “gelato shop”. But we kept doing what we always knew, make a great product for the customers and me. Yes, I eat gelato. I taste everything I make and sometimes I like to sit on our patio with a cone of 2 or 3 flavours, like hazelnut, pistachio and chocolate or lemon ice and enjoy as though I was in Italy(can you hear the music playing).
Fads come and go, and the ice cream business, in general, has had many fads. A businessman tries to reinvent the wheel, but an Artisan strives to perfect it. I always look at how I can make my product better, without compromising quality. I also research about allergies. So my customers can enjoy my product without having a reaction, due to an allergy. I would rather not make a sale, then have someone have a bad experience, due to an allergy. We are peanut free and our gelato base is gluten free. We do not use any hydrogenated oils, yes some people do but don’t tell you. Next time you are in a grocery store, go to the freezer section and read the labels of the ice cream/gelato/frozen desserts.
Note a “subscribe” feature will be added to the website shortly. So you can be notified when there is a new blog topic.
Stay tuned for the next topic, "What is the difference?"
